Knowledge Leakage in Organizations

Knowledge is the lifeblood of the modern organization. Knowledge drives innovation which creates sustainable competitive advantage. In this paper we ask how organizations can protect their VRIN (valuable, rare, inimitable and non-substiutable) knowledge assets? We report on the security mechanisms deployed in 11 knowledge-intensive organizations. Drawing on our field study we assess the extent to which recommended security controls are employed to mitigate the risk of knowledge leakage.
